It’s time to Demystify the Writers Room.
Congratulations! In this simulated workshop, you’ve just been staffed in your first TV writers room!

2 days. 8 hours total. Saturday July 1st & Sunday July 2nd. 12-4pm PST both days
Room location: Zoom
Prep: You will be sent a pilot script and show bible/overview to read prior to Day 1 of the room. Come to Day 1 having read it.
Services rendered. You will receive an overview, instruction, and in-the-moment constructive feedback on the following skills used in television writers rooms:
BLUE SKYING - there will be no bad ideas when you blue sky with the other writers in the room to generate episode ideas for the season.
BREAKING STORY - break story on one of the fresh ideas you generated with the other writers in the room.
OUTLINING - outline an episode in the writers room
FRANKENSTEINING - YOU’RE OFF TO SCRIPT! At the end of Day 1, you’ll be assigned a scene to write by Day 2.
NOTES - you will experience the notes process and how to respond
REVISING - you’ll revise the script generated by everyone’s combined scenes.
PUNCHING UP - you’ll experience strengthening the jokes in the script as a room.
At the end of Day 2, you will come away having experienced what it’s like to be in a TV writer’s room.
Class Showrunner/Instructor: JONTERRI GADSON. A former creative writing professor turned TV writer who wants to create, nurture, and advocate for writers. Currently (when not on strike) a Story Editor on Everybody Still Hates Chris. She’s on a mission to demystify the writers room with this workshop and she’s excited to help you learn from some of her mistakes!
